William Butler is a huge mainstay in the Horror genre, not only starring in some of the biggest cult films the genre has to offer, but working behind the scenes in make-up and special effects work as well. He has written scripts for the Ginger Bread Man and Return Of The Living Dead series as well as directed a few of those films. He has also worked behind the scenes working in the make-up department for Army Of Darkness and working with special effects for such blockbusters such as Small Soldiers, the Stallone starrer Demolition Man and John Carpenter's Village Of The Damned.

Will is best known by Friday The 13th fans as Michael in Friday The 13th Part 7: The New Blood. He has some great stories to tell about his time on The New Blood and his other films!

Many of our readers are patiently waiting to see if fan favorite Derek Mears will be reprising his role as Jason Voorhees for the new Friday The 13th (2017) film. In the mean time, they definitely enjoy the chance to meet with Derek and discuss with him his role in the Friday The 13th franchise thus far.

The character Alice Hardy is one of the most recognizable heroines in the Horror genre and actress Adrienne King did an excellent job bringing the franchise's first final girl to life on-screen in Friday The 13th 1980. Fans love to meet her at conventions and now our readers can meet Alice, Derek Mears, Will Butler and the already announced Harry Manfredini at Mad Monster Party .

The convention takes place in Charlotte, North Carolina the weekend of March 25-27, 2016. For more information, make sure to visit madmonster.com.

The art is an acrylic painting on a 24" x 30" canvas and shows the vintage and original Jason look with sack mask and is accompanied by the Packanack Training Center sign. About Friday The 13th Part 2
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to camp...here's even more heart-pounding terror.

Five years after the horrible bloodbath at Camp Crystal Lake, all that remains is the legend of Jason Voorhees and his demented mother, who had murdered seven camp counselors. At a nearby summer camp, the new counselors are unconcerned about the warnings to stay away from the infamous site. Carefree, the young people roam the area, not sensing the ominous lurking presence. One by one, they are attacked and brutally slaughtered. Suspense and screams abound in this compelling chiller.

The Lost Collectible Friday The 13th Prism Stickers From The 1980s

Friday The 13th collectibles are not hard to find nowadays as something new is being released every month among various companies. Some items are licensed and some are not, but the amount of collectibles available to fans in present day are astounding. That wasn't always the case, however, as when the films were the franchise's heyday back in the 1980's there were a very limited amount of merchandise to buy to celebrate Jason Voorhees. One of the more obscure collectibles to come out of the decade wasn't even on the radar of many fans until the late 1990's and that is the Selectra Prism stickers.

Selectra began producing their Prism stickers sometime around 1986 and sold them in vending machines placed in numerous stores and restaurants. At the time, no one would have thought these tiny stickers would become hot collectible items that have been known to be sold for around $100 a piece, if not more, depending on the rarity of the sticker. We have found five Prism stickers that were produced representing the Friday The 13th films, which are posted below.

There are two stickers of pseudo Jason from Friday The 13th: A New Beginning, both of which have the incorrect green color on the chevrons instead of blue. There is one sticker of the mask-less Jason Voorhees from Friday The 13th Part 7: The New Blood and the other two are form Jason Lives and Jason Takes Manhattan. The sticker from Part 8 is our favorite and is a centerpiece of many fan's collection.

What do you think of these rare collectibles? Do our readers own of any of these? Post your pics in the comments section below and share your collection with the fans!

The Inglorious Send Off To Paramount's Friday The 13th Franchise

With the 1980's winding down and an unthinkable run of box office success coming to a close, Paramount Pictures decided to greenlight one last desperate attempt to sell Jason Voorhees to audiences. The premise of Jason running around New York may have signaled the end of the franchise for some fans, but the prospects of what could be done with the character in a large city far outweighed those concerns in the eyes of many others. The well documented budget constraints destroyed any chance of Jason actually being in Manhattan for more than five minutes, leaving fans overall disappointed. However, even those monetary concerns do not excuse the awful ending of Friday The 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan.

After chasing Rennie and Sean to a New York diner, Jason dispatches of a rather large cook (Ken Kirzinger, who also played Jason in the film in a few scenes as well as full time in Freddy vs Jason) and proceeds to follow the kids into the sewer system. This is where the film completely falls apart. While in the sewer, the teens run into a sanitation worker who warns the sewer flushes out with toxic waste every night at midnight. This fact in the film has always been a point of contention among the Friday The 13th community for many years as most people are aware that this would never happen, especially in a major city. With that being said, it has a level of suspension of disbelief to allow for the film to continue. From here on out, though, the ending of Jason Takes Manhattan is almost unwatchable.

After killing the sanitation worker and knocking out Sean, Jason Voorhees begins chasing Rennie through the sewers of New York and is then ambushed by the female teen with a conveniently placed bucket of toxic waste! It is very apparent that the filmmakers really think New York is full of toxic waste. What a dirty city, right? Perhaps some of this may be true before the Giuliani era began in the city, but for the purposes of the film, we can even forgive the ridiculous idea of a bucket of toxic waste laying around. So, Rennie throws the toxic concoction at Jason and he begins screaming, writhing in pain and ripping the mask off his face to reveal the absolute worst make-up effects for Jason ever created!

This whole sequence is laughable and a kick in the face to the fans. For one, Jason is a zombie. Why would he be in pain at all? Second, even a human Jason from the earlier films would never have screamed so much like a whiny kid. While Jason cries out like a baby, shaking his fist in the air, Rennie runs away again. Jason then stumbles along a wall and eventually catches up to a Rennie and a revived Sean as the pair try to escape the sewer via a ladder to the surface before the toxic waste floods the tunnels.

The even more outrageous part of the ending is yet to come as Jason, trying to grab at the feet of his would-be victims, realizes the toxic waste is flooding the sewer and udders the words, "mommy, don't let me drown. Mommy!" If that isn't enough to make fans scream in agony, Jason then spews out water from his mouth and is hit with the chemical waste. The result of this toxic bath is that he turns back into a little child!

The last few minutes of the film are so nonsensical that even I, a huge champion of the franchise, cannot watch this ending to the film any more. One of the most menacing horror icons of our generation is reduced to screaming, shaking his fist, yelling for his mommy, and then changing back into a kid?

Paramount had indeed given up and thrown in the towel. There was no way they were ever thinking about making a another film after approving this mess of an ending. What an inglorious end to Paramount's bloody legacy of Friday The 13th and Jason Voorhees.

Did Paramount Reveal Too Early That Jason Wasn't The Killer In 'Friday The 13th: A New Beginning'?

Fans in the Friday The 13th community often discuss and debate facts and scenarios that occur in the various films. One such debate centers around the appearance of the pseudo Jason in Friday The 13th: A New Beginning and if Paramount gave away Jason not being the killer too early.

The premise of A New Beginning wants to take us to a whodunit story-line where the killer could be Tommy Jarvis, a resurrected Jason Voorhees, or perhaps an unknown assailant. The film does a good job of concealing the look of the killer for the majority of the film, and even plants seeds that Jason is the killer by having Tommy Jarvis experience hallucinations of Voorhees still decked out in his now traditional garb of green shirt, grey pants and hockey mask with red chevron. If only that wardrobe consistency of the killer was carried forward to the final 10 minutes or so of the film, the whodunit angle could have held almost until the very end.

Once the killer is fully revealed onscreen, he is shown to be wearing a mechanics suit and a hockey mask, but the mask has chevrons that are placed on different areas of the mask and colored blue. Upon close examination, producer Tim Silver and the filmmakers clearly decided to tell the audience at this point that the killer in the film was not Jason Voorhees. This calculated revelation was probably meant to redirect the audience's thought that Tommy Jarvis was the killer, but that idea really throws off the whodunit angle in the last 10 minutes of the film. Carrying the idea that Jason may still be the killer until the very end could have kept fans engaged even more in the finale of the film.

Of course is it assumed that a good number of people figured out it was Roy by the time he came busting through that balsa wood entrance door, but it would have been nice to still see Paramount try and keep that trifecta of who it could have been for as long as possible. What are your thoughts on the killer's reveal and keeping his look consistent with Jason Voorhees from the previous films?

Last month Kane Hodder, Gun Media, and Illfonic took over Digital Domain (An Academy Award®-winning digital production studio located in Venice, California) to shoot the motion capture scenes for the upcoming Friday The 13th: The Game. Every day of that week's shoot was broadcast on Periscope, and if you were lucky enough to watch any of the days, you were able to see some truly amazing behind the scenes footage of what it is like to make a next generation video game. Realistically, it felt like a production team making an actual movie and it was really great to be able to see something so dear to the fan's hearts being created in real time.

This unprecedented access to the making of the game is greatly appreciated and last week, Gun Media decided to give people a chance to look even further behind the scenes with an edited together video of the shoot which shows Kane getting really pretty violent with the stunt people who are doubling for counselors in the game. Check out the video below which showcases even more of Harry Manfredini's new musical score for game.

Looking Back: Michael Bay Discusses Friday The 13th In 2008

$

Part of being fans of a film franchise such as Friday the 13th is being able to look back at a time in our life and remember what it was like when a new movie was announced and all of the hype that surrounded it. In the 1980's it was an annual event to see marketing for a new movie. However, there is more appreciation for hype in relation to new Friday the 13th movies now as there are fewer to look forward to.

For you fans that like to reminisce about Friday movies of years past, we thought we would start revisiting old interviews with cast and crew members from various media and print outlets from the past 30 years. It is interesting to read a person's thoughts on a subject during the production in a movie and compare it to what they may have said about the experience many years later.

We'll start off a new today with an interview Entertainment Weekly Online conducted with Director/Producer Michael Bay back in July 2008. The main topics of discussion surrounded Transformers 2 and Friday The 13th 2009. Looking back now, some fans may get a chuckle out of some of the remarks about the film now that we have all seen the finished product. Read the interview below and let us know what you think!

From Entertainment Weekly
You recently wrapped production on your update of Friday the 13th, and horror buffs out there are dying to know: what’s it going to be about?
It’s a reconception of the original. We’re introducing a whole group of new kids. What we always try to do is add a little bit of freshness to these movies that were really scary back then and update them for a new audience.

So are you following the same plot as the very first Friday the 13th?
It’s a little different. I don’t want to give it away because of the Internet crazies.

There’s been rumors that you’re going to include plots from all three Friday the 13ths into your remake. Is that true?
The first two, yeah.

Where did you film the Crystal Lake scenes?
In Austin, where we also shot Texas Chainsaw. Austin gives you a lot of looks.

Is there anything else you are willing to divulge about it?
I haven’t seen the director’s cut because he’s still cutting, but I know this one will really be scary; it’s also funny, as well. It’s a fun college adventure that goes awry. It’s not a movie I would ever show my mom! (Laughs) We don’t make these for our mothers; we make these for the fans out there.

Speaking of those fans, what do you say to people who are worried that an update of Friday the 13th will ruin the original?
There are always haters out there, and you can’t get rid of that. We try to be faithful, and we’re fans ourselves. It’s like when I did Transformers — I listened to the fans, you know, but you still have to make your own movie by respecting what was done and trying to give it a whole new twist.

How have you given it a new twist?
You’re just not going to believe the first 12 minutes! It’s a twist in itself.

Even if Friday The 13th Part 3 is not your favorite film in the franchise, the film tends to be held in high regard because of the ambitious use of 3-D effects employed during its production. If fans have ever viewed Part 3 in theaters with the original technology created for the three dimensional effects, then you have witnessed quite possibly the best theatrical representation of the technology ever created. To help market the film, 3-D Video Corporation decided to create a full 3-D poster for Friday The 13th Part 3 for which the company licensed from Paramount to sell.

The full size 24" x 36" poster was edited by Susan Pinsky, of Reel 3-D Enterprises, who was hired by Jim Butterfield, the president of 3D Video Corporation. Susan then hired artist Barry Jackson, 3-D art conversion artist Tony Alderson, and worked with technical consultant John Rupkalvis to create one of the most iconic marketing items from the film ever produced. Some of our readers are even aware that a special pair of 3D glasses were produced to go with the poster and those glasses pop up on eBay from time to time for sale.

Below is the original 3-D poster created by 3-D Video Corporation as well as an image taken during the original shoot where the 3-D effects for the poster were being created.

So here is the exciting news for fans. Reel 3-D Enterprises is selling originally produced posters with glasses from 1982 in their original wrapping! The cost is $49.95, but if you are a collector and a bit of a historian of the franchise, here is an excellent opportunity to own an authentic original printing of this iconic poster from 1982. For details on the sale, visit the eBay sale.

Gun Media and Illfonic have begun a bi-weekly video series that will provide production updates of the progress of Friday The 13th: The Game. These videos will give fans and gamers a behind the scenes look how the game is coming together and hopefully answer some of the burning questions that people have been asking about the what to expect from the experience.

From the first video (posted below), Friday The 13th: The Game has moved to full on production mode as they are now taking in the motion capture data that was filmed in January and creating their in-game models that will bring Jason to life. One cool thing that was revealed in the first video of the game development series is that there are a lot of objects from the films that are being rendered to be added in to the game, such as blankets, chairs and killing instruments. These will all serve as fun Easter eggs for the most die-hard fans of the franchise to spot and figure out which of the films they belong to.

Check back for the next bi-weekly update and make sure to vote right now on which new Jason rendition you want added to the game!

The Saga Of Kane Hodder Not Playing Jason Voorhees In 'Freddy vs Jason'

$

Although it has been well over ten years since Freddy vs Jason was released in theaters, many of our readers and fans abroad still wonder if the film would have been even better if Kane Hodder had been allowed to play Jason Voorhees. Of course, there was a big controversy over the decision to not cast Kane in the iconic role back in 2002 when it was revealed he would not be returning. The World Wide Web was really still in it's infancy and there was a lot of miscommunication and misinformation spreading throughout chat rooms and message forums about what really happened. Kane was pretty vocal about the decision in magazine interviews, and to this day, he still has not received an answer to why he was not invited back to play the role.

Throughout the years, many involved in the production of Freddy vs Jason would point back and forth to who made the call to not have Kane return to play. Some would say it was director Ronny Yu who made the call, while others say executives at New Line Cinema made the final decision. By now, the majority of Friday The 13th fans have read Crystal Lake Memories or watched the documentary of the same name and are more familiar with the circumstances surrounding the decision. In the horror community, this was huge deal at the time and even today people still are confused as to what happened.

To give some clarity to what may have happened during this casting controversy, we have broken down a section of Crystal Lake Memories and condensed some key points of the interviews conducted by Peter Bracke. Please read below to see how some of the people involved in the film felt about Kane not being cast and the reasoning for him not being brought onto production from a number of different perspectives and point of views.

From Crystal Lake Memories
SEAN CUNNINGHAM:
Casting the role of Jason was another matter. It was New Line’s decision to hire a new actor for the role. It was not a consensus. A lot of people, including me, thought they should have stayed with Kane Hodder. But the studio wanted to try something different, to make it fresh. To me, it was done for no good reason. But, at some point, the people that write the checks get the cut, if you know what I mean. Having said that, I think Ken Kirzinger did a terrific job. I like Ken, and I like Kane. Still, and this is nothing against Ken, I feel that it was a mistake to not go with Kane. Of all the people who had anything to do with Freddy vs. Jason, Kane was the one that I think was not treated as well as he should have been.

KANE HODDER:
Way back in March of 2002, I got one of the first Freddy vs. Jason scripts once it had been given the green-light. And I thought, “We’re looking good here now. If they are giving me the script, obviously they want me to play the character.” And this came from New Line directly. I even had a meeting with an executive there, as well as a great talk with Ronny Yu—at least, I thought it went very well. Maybe that was just a meeting to satisfy whomever. Then I was made an offer. One of the producers of the film called and said, “We want you to do it, but we don’t have much money and this is what we can offer.” And he gave me a number. My only question was, “Does that include residuals? Was this a buyout situation?” The answer was, “I’m not sure. Let me check on that.”

They tried to tell me that they wanted someone with more expressive eyes and all this stuff.

MATTHEW BARRY, Casting Director:
Kane came in and said, “This means a lot to me. I have a lot of fans. Don’t take this away from me.” But in the end, you always have to do what’s best for the film, and Ronny thought recasting Jason would be the right thing to do. And, to be honest, so did I. Kane was physically too big. He didn’t fit the image that Ronny was going for. Ronny wanted to focus on Jason’s eyes. And he felt Kane was a little too cartoon-y in the last few films. It was about movement, too, at least compared to the other films, where Jason just kind of walks around like Frankenstein. There’s a lot more to him in this one.

RONNY YU, Director:
I had no problem with Kane. He did fantastic work. But the studio thought it was a good idea to change. They were thinking that this is a whole new franchise, and another new actor to play Jason could give the movie a little different flavor, including updating his costume and look. Ultimately, it was not my call—it was really New Line’s. Although I agreed it was a great idea because then we could inject new ideas into Freddy vs. Jason.

KANE HODDER:
Eventually they had an open casting call—I know a lot of people who went in on it. They ended up hiring a Canadian stuntman. So what does that tell you? They wanted someone with more expressive eyes, or someone who was cheaper and more convenient?

It seems as though there were creative and financial motivations behind recasting Jason Voorhees for Freddy vs Jason and perhaps the biggest point of contention in the situation is loyalty and honesty towards a true champion of the franchise.

One's Customs has been creating highly detailed and near screen accurate representations of Horror characters for many years and has gained a large following of fans and customers for that work. A few years ago, a website was created to showcase the custom figure work of the artist, which is located at allscaleseverything.com. Yesterday, One's Customs posted some great images of their latest Friday The 13th creation and it looks fantastic.

Part of their new Slasher Concept Series, this new 1/6th scale custom figure is a new take on Jason Voorhees from Friday The 13th: A New Beginning. We are not sure if this figure is based on Jason from Tommy Jarvis' dream sequences or if it is supposed to be an alternate version of what the pseudo Jason would look like? Regardless, the concept looks great! These custom figures can get pretty expensive, so if you are interested in purchasing this custom work, be aware it will cost you a good amount of money.

Check out the images below and let us know what you think of this concept as well as the quality of work of this new custom Jason figure.

There is nothing better than getting to meet those actors and stuntmen who helped tell the tale of the deranged psychopaths Pamela and Jason Voorhees. There is something to be said about those special few that have survived the maniacal attacks of the Voorhees clan and live to tell about it. In this case, the newly announced alumni convention attendees were imitating Jason Voorhees and surviving him.

Announced recently on the official Facebook Page for Flashback Weekend, Tom Morga (pseudo Jason, Friday The 13th: A New Beginning) and Melanie Kinnaman (Pam Roberts, Friday The 13th: A New Beginning) will be guests at the Flashback Weekend Chicago Horror Convention Aug. 5-7, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare. There may be more Friday The 13th alumni announced in the future, so keep an eye out at their Facebook page or their website for more updates.
