Weekend Of Horrors Returns With Friday The 13th 40th Anniversary Reunion

Weekend Of Horrors was once THE go-to horror convention for fans to meet their favorite actors and crew from various frightful films. It was started by former Fangoria magazine editor Tommy Timpone in 1985 and was also regularly sponsored by the horror publication. As numerous horror conventions popped up over the past twenty years, Weekend Of Horrors faded away, but that is about to change.

The popular convention is back and Creation Entertainment is bringing the show to fans next year with a huge lineup of stars. To kick off the return, there is going to be a big Friday The 13th 40th Anniversary reunion from the 1980 film  Stars Adrienne King, Robbie Morgan, Jeannine Taylor, and Ron Milkie will attend along with Director Sean Cunningham, composer Harry Manfredini, and make-up effects artist Tom Savini. There is also a bonus alumni for which Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter Director Joe Zito will be in attendance!

The Weekend of Horrors convention will take place June 11-13, 2021 at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, New Jersey. For information on the event, please visit the Creation Entertainment website.

Our readers are always in search of the latest releases of the Friday The 13th films on home video and no matter how many different versions are released of the films, we are always excited to collect the newest packages of the franchise. Starting in 2017, German home video distributor '84 Entertainment began releasing Media Books for seven of the Paramount Friday The 13th films from the 1980's, along with Friday The 13th 2009 and the documentaries His Name Was Jason and Crystal Lake Memories. There have been different versions of the covers for collectors to track down over the past couple of years for these films and this August, the company will be releasing retro VHS cover editions on Blu-Ray!

Coming this August 10th, 2020 will be seven of the original Paramount eight films released in the 1980’s as well as Friday The 13th 2009. Since these are German releases, the original 1980 film is not included as home video distribution outside of the United States is handled by Warner Bros.

Below are the specs for the VHS editions of the films:

Format: Limited Edition
Language: German (DTS-HD 2.0), English (DTS-HD 2.0), English (DTS-HD 5.1)
Subtitles: English, German
Studio: 84 Entertainment

The fun part of these releases is that the covers are the exact covers used for the original VHS release in the German market back in the 1980's! Check out all of the covers for the films below and if you are interested, each Blu-Ray release costs 39,99 Euro and can be purchased at Pretz Media!

Gun Media Addresses Hacking Concerns With Friday The 13th: The Game

Friday The 13th: The Game has been a great source of escape, entertainment, and reminiscing for the fans of the Friday The 13th films. In a lot of ways, the game is a highly detailed digital archive of film locations and movie experiences for long removed buildings over the past decades. The long term goals of the publisher Gun Media was never fully realized due to the ongoing law suit over the franchise rights, but the game truly did deliver on recreating the film experience of Crystal Lake and Jason Voorhees.

Unfortunately, there has been a high rate of hacking within the game recently and Gun Media just sent us a Press Release addressing the concerns of the hacking incidents.

For Immediate Release

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY July 10, 2020

Beginning the first of July and continuing over the last ten days, there have been hacking attempts on Friday the 13th: The Game affecting matchmaking, gameplay, and player progression. We are in the process of conducting our own internal investigation and have engaged a third party international computer forensics company. We are working with our development partners toward preventing further disruptions. These attempts and the harm to our player base constitute a crime. So, in addition to our other efforts above, we will also be fully cooperating with any resulting law enforcement investigations. We have not detected any loss of or unauthorized access to any personal or financial player information. Due to the criminal nature of this intrusion and the ongoing investigation as to its origins, we are currently unable to share additional information.

About Gun Media
Based in Kentucky, Gun Media is a publisher of interactive entertainment comprised of industry veterans with unique and complementary backgrounds. The team shares a passion for horror and a vision that game development is not just the creation of a product, but the blending of art, design, and technology to produce experiences that engage and entertain players from all over the world. The mission of Gun is to foster fresh voices in interactive horror experiences, engaging gamers and fans of the genre across a wide range of platforms.

Scream Factory Announces New 12 Film Friday The 13th Home Video Box Set With Blu-Ray, 4K, And Real 3D!

It’s been a long time coming, but we can finally let the cat out of the bag and report that Scream Factory is indeed releasing a brand new twelve film box set of the Friday The 13th movie franchise. Scream Factory has been working on the set for the better part of a year thus far and experienced some delays due to the Covid 19 outbreak. News of this new set leaked a few months ago as word from some of the alumni who are part of the new features let it be known something new is in the works. No problem, as this set is packed with brand new interviews, commentary, artwork, and yes, 4K transfers!

Not only are there 4K transfers for some of the films, but Scream Factory has completed a Real 3D transfer for Friday The 13th Part 3! From what I am told, it looks great and this should give fans a presentation that is worthy of the theatrical release and show what the filmmakers intended audiences to see almost forty years ago. Say good bye to the red and blue glasses!

There is a brand new booklet included in the set that chronicles the films of the franchise, written by Michael Gingold. He has been writing about the horror genre for years and has been involved in covering the Friday The 13th films during their theatrical releases, so he is very knowledgeable of the franchise and does an excellent job discussing the films throughout the years.

There will be new artwork and poster for the box set as well. Rejoice Friday The 13th fans, this is the comprehensive set you have been waiting for! Read on for the official release from Scream Factory below and let us know know what you think of the set.

Director Cody Faulk and Wet Paint Pictures are ready to show fans their new take on the Friday The 13th mythos. Previous trailers
have shown what can be expected of Voorhees, and now you can watch the announcement trailer below and look for the film online for free on October 31, 2020

They committed the perfect crime.  They planned for every possibility.  But they never planned for him…

After pulling off the perfect heist a dangerous crew of thieves flee town to the seclusion of the nearby woods. All they have to do is make it through the night so they can get away clean but their sadistic leader has taken them to the long deserted Camp Crystal Lake, a place that is no longer on any maps and for good reason.

Unaware of the locations notorious past the fugitives begin to explore their temporary hideout and soon realize that this place has a very dark and violent history that they are soon about to become part of.

It is a race to morning where the lines between bad and pure evil are blurred and the fight to survive the awakened legend of Camp Crystal Lake is much more than they bargained for.

Friday The 13th Part 2 is largely beloved by the fans of the franchise as well as the horror community. Packanack Lodge is also a huge favorite as the best film location for any Friday The 13th films. Well, for our readers that agree with both of these statements, we have a real treat to share today. John M Stewart and his Korova Art label have created the ultimate Part 2 diorama, complete with Jason Voorhees’ shack!

The latest diorama from John is 27 inches by 20 inches wide and is 12 inches high. This piece is a marvel with intricate detail of the area surrounding the main cabins from the film and the Crystal Lake shore. Check out the numerous photos below to see just how accurate the individual pieces are in the set. And again, there is Jason’s shack!

The lighting of the nighttime scenes are awesome and give this diorama a real cinematic feel. Check out John’s other creations at his site johnstewartgallery.weebly.com and find more pictures of this unbelievable piece of art as well.

Womp Stomp Films successfully launched their critically acclaimed Friday the 13th fan film Never Hike Alone in October 2017, and in doing so, set the bar incredibly high for what independent film making could do for the franchise. Since that film’s release a crowdfunding campaign was successfully launched to continue the story of Ghost Hock Jason and Tommy Jarvis. Director Vincente DiSanti is bringing a winter-set prequel to the hit fan film and it will definitely not disappoint.

Watch the brand new trailer for Never Hike In The Snow below and get ready for the film’s release online this October 13th!

Never Hike in the Snow, a brand new Friday fan film, is set 3 months prior to the events of Never Hike Alone and follows the strange disappearance of Mark Hill, a Crystal Lake local who went for a hike one day in the dead of winter and never came home.

As Local Wessex County Sheriff Rick Cologne (Vinny Guastaferro) and Deputy Allen Mabry (Bryan Forrest) search for answers, town local Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews) believes that his old nemesis Jason Voorhees (Vincente DiSanti) is to blame. Will Diana Hill (Anna Campbell) ever see her son again, or will her son become another lost victim of the cursed camp?

Back in July, Scream Factory surprised us all with the announcement of their brand new Friday The 13th Blu-Ray box set. There was so much to unpack with the details of their release that many fans couldn’t believe that there was even more content to be announced. Everyone has been patient and now the rest of the extras have been released.

The biggest and most anticipated news is that Scream Factory found the unedited death scenes from Friday The 13th Part 2! I have seen the footage and it is awesome. There is especially one death that is jaw dropping and very unexpected. Other highlights are the first interview on camera of Harry Crosby from Friday The 13th 1980 and a long over due interview with Friday The 13th Part 2 and Part 3 director Steve Miner! How Scream Factory Was Able To Include The Lost (Now Found) Uncut Friday The 13th Part 2 Death Footage

It was announced yesterday that Scream Factory has found and included the long sought after unedited death scenes from Friday The 13th Part 2 for their new mega Blu-Ray box set being released next month. This is huge news for fans who will finally get to see these scenes as they were intended by make-up effects artist Carl Fullerton. Speaking of Mr. Fullerton, he is the reason why the scenes were found!

Stories of Carl possessing these scenes go way back to the book and documentary Crystal Lake Memories. There are many accounts documented, but specifically fellow effects man and genre legend Greg Nicotero recounted a time when Carl invited him over to see the footage. It is was even noted that he had it on a VHS tape. Fast forward to 2020 where producer and director Edwin Samuelson was preparing to interview Bill Randolph (Jeff from Part 2) for the Scream Factory release. During his research for the interview, he stumbled upon the talk of Carl Fullerton owning the VHS with these unedited death scenes. Excited to find out if Carl still had the tapes, he reached out to the effects man and eventually touched base with him to see if he had the tape. He did, and arranged to have the tape shipped out to have it included in the box set.

However, Edwin was skeptical of having the tape shipped via mail:
Because I was terrified that if it was shipped via postal mail, it might get lost in transit, so I made arrangements to get the tape in person through my co-producer and pal, Peter Bracke.  I joked with Peter that I should have gotten him a suitcase with handcuffs and a bodyguard as this most likely was the only copy in existence. Peter met up with Carl, who handed him the old cassette with a typewritten date of April 24, 1981
I have seen the cut footage and it is a sight to see. All of the death scenes are extended with a number of scenes running longer by more than a few seconds. Alice's extended death is a shocker and the one that really surprises me. Mark's wheelchair death is prolonged and looks great, and even Scott's extended death is much bloodier.

I was concerned the quality of the frames would be hard to make out, and even Edwin was afraid of what state the cassette would be in:
At nearly four decades old, the tape gave me cause to worry, but what I discovered was that the older vintage of the tape actually worked in everyone’s favor. The VHS cassettes used back in the day were of a much higher quality than the ones used a few years later. In fact, I was surprised at how good the image quality was, especially considering the source.
So there you have it, the story on how fans will finally be able to enjoy these lost, unedited scenes after almost forty years. Make sure to check out Samuelson Studios on Facebook to get more information on this story and to see their other projects.

Interview: Tom Nowell (Tyen), Jason Lives: Friday The 13th Part VI

By Dan Sartain

Thomas Nowell is a prolific writer/actor that resides in Los Angeles, CA. He has appeared on screen with such names as Michael J Fox, Chuck Norris, Jonah Hill, and countless others. The readers of this site would know him best from his scene stealing roll in Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives. His character was Tayen, but we would know him best as the “We’re Dead-Meat” kid. We catch up with Mr. Nowell now to see what he’s been up to since. Also to reflect on the time he spent filming not one, but 2 films at Camp Daniel Morgan consecutively.

Q: Jason Lives has not been your last venture into the horror genre. Would you tell us a bit about your career since filming Friday 6?

A: The summer after Jason Lives, I was lucky enough to have been cast in Vincent Price’s, I believe, second-to-last film, From a Whisper to a Scream. It was originally released with the title The Offspring, and it was the debut feature of director Jeff Burr, who went on to direct a number of horror titles like Stepfather IITexas Chainsaw Massacre IIIPumpkinhead II, and Puppet Master 4 and 5 . He was pretty much the go-to horror sequel director there for a while and a really fantastic guy. From a Whisper was a horror anthology, with Price as the kind-of host stringing the vignettes together. I was the villain in the final vignette, the leader of town of cannibalistic child Civil War survivors. Regrettably I didn’t have any scenes with Vincent Price, but I did get to stab a Union soldier in the crotch and light Cameron Mitchell on fire before all the kids ate him.

Bear in mind this was all some time ago, when I was 12 or 13. Since then I haven’t done anything nearly as exciting, though I did have the pleasure of appearing in a couple of seasons of the Netflix show Friends from College as Keegan-Michael Key’s creepy roommate. I’m still waiting for a call from Jordan Peele.

Q: As mentioned above, you filmed 2 movies in as many years at Camp Daniel Morgan. The first being ‘Poison Ivy’ (1985) the second being ‘Friday the 13th Pt.6: Jason Lives’ (1986). Was it coincidence?

A: I guess so. Most of the filming back then in Georgia where I lived was low-budget fare like horror or summer camp movies. Or horror summer camp movie hybrids like Jason Lives, or Sleepaway Camp II, in which my brother Justin was butchered by a serial killer camp counselor played by Bruce Springsteen’s sister, Pamela. I think that one was shot at a different camp, though Camp Daniel Morgan was a popular location.

Q: At the time you filmed ‘Poison Ivy’, Michael J Fox was on the verge of breaking into superstardom with the Zemeckis/Spielberg hit ‘Back to the Future’. He was a television star with a lot of momentum behind him. Did you have any idea you were working with one of the biggest stars of the decade during the shoot?

A: I was obsessed with his character Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties, so yeah, I was pretty star struck getting to work with Michael J. Fox. And it was only a year later that both Teen Wolf and Back to the Future came out, so it wasn’t that long a wait before he became this huge movie star.

Q: By the time you filmed ‘Jason Lives’, you were a veteran performer at that location. Was it like putting on an old hat?

A: I vaguely remember being kind of disappointed I didn’t get to go someplace new.

Q: Did you attend the camp as a child, or was it strictly a work environment?

A: Strictly work. I did go to camp, but in Colorado. All of us kid actors had a blast shooting at Camp Daniel Morgan, though. Particularly on Poison Ivy. It was a thirty day shoot with the whole cast and crew staying at a Holiday Inn down the road the entire time, so it definitely felt like that summer camp kind of experience. Michael J. Fox was really incredible with all the kids, too. Even after a full day of shooting he’d be there playing water polo in the motel pool with us. He really was like our camp counselor off screen, as well.

Q: It is well know to our readers that ‘Jason Lives’ was filmed under the name ‘Aladdin Sane’. This was to throw off the rabid fans of the series from finding the location during filming. Were you aware that you were making a Friday the 13th movie?

A: Not until after I was cast. And it wasn’t until a few years after that that I learned Aladdin Sane was the name of a David Bowie album. I led a semi-sheltered childhood.

Q: Had you seen any of the previous Friday the 13th films prior to filming?

A: I don’t think that I had. No, I’m sure I hadn’t.

Q: ‘Poison Ivy’ was quite tonally different from ‘Friday the 13th 6’. The first being a romantic comedy, and a family friendly romp of a made for TV movie, the second being a hardcore slasher film made during the golden age of 80’s horror. How was the mood on set different between the two films?

A: Not so different, really. I mean, there’s a lot of joking around on most of the film sets I’ve been on. I don’t recall Part VI being any different in that regard. Also, for all it’s family-friendliness, Poison Ivy did have a whole serial killer subplot, where the campers were convinced the camp handyman was an axe murderer. As it turned out, he was just a frustrated abstract expressionist and the dried blood on his hatchet was red paint he’d fling at his Jackson Pollock-like canvases.

Q: Are you aware that ‘Jason Lives’ is considered by many to be the best of the series?

A: And rightly so! No, I did not realize that was the fan consensus, but I’m happy it is. It’s a seriously fun movie.

Q: Do you consider yourself to be a fan of the horror genre?

A: Absolutely -- I know which side my bread is buttered on! I just watched Gaspar Noé’s Climax and Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria remake back-to-back a couple of months ago, and let me tell you, they made for a terrifying and claustrophobic quarantine double bill.

Q: Lastly, what does the immediate future hold for you?

A: Dear God, hopefully getting out of the house someday soon and going back to work!

Thank you for your time!

Thank you, Dan!

La La Land Records To Release ‘The New Blood’ And ‘Jason Takes Manhattan’ CD Soundtracks

La La Land Records was the first company to release an officially licensed box set of Friday The 13th soundtracks back in 2012. In fact, they were the first to release true individual soundtrack offerings of the Paramount era films. The extensive work the soundtrack company put in to acquire the sounds of Harry Manfredini’s iconic scores has been enjoyed for the past eight years by our readers in digital and vinyl. Now we have word that La La Land will be releasing the scores to Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood and Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan on CD!

There is currently a vinyl soundtrack of The New Blood available that was just released this year and the vinyl release of Jason Takes Manhattan is coming later in 2020, however, not everyone is into the resurgence of record players, so the CD soundtrack release of these films is welcome to many fans. There is no word yet on if the track listing will mirror that of what resides on the vinyl releases, but it is a very good bet they will be exactly the same, if not very close.

Check back here for more information on the soundtrack offerings when the release dates are announced. Hint, it could be a certain date we all love!

Director Cody Faulk and Wet Paint Pictures are ready to show fans their new take on the Friday The 13th mythos. Previous trailers have shown what can be expected of Voorhees, and now you can watch the final trailer below and look for the film online for free on October 31, 2020.

See A Shot Of Alice’s Part 2 Extended Death Scene From Scream Factory’s Friday The 13th Box Set

With our readers now receiving Scream Factory’s mega release Blu-Ray Box set, we can now begin to reveal some of the great features of the set, and that includes the grail piece that is the extended death scenes from Friday The 13th Part 2! The scenes come courtesy of the film’s make-up effects artist Carl Fullerton and show off some surprising, never before seen effects.

One shocking reveal from Carl’s VHS is that of the extended death of Alice in the prologue of Part 2. In the scene, Alice is grabbed from behind as an ice pick is jammed into the side of her head. The shot ends there in the theatrical release. The MPAA required heavy editing to this film, and as such, a lot of effects work was cut, so it was very surprising to see that Alice’s death was prolonged.

As you can see in the image below, after Jason stabs Alice in the side of the head, it is revealed the pick protrudes outward from her face! It’s an excruciatingly looking demise and would have elicited a wild response from fans in the theater if this cut footage was left in the film.

Check out all of the new extras announced for the release for the box set shipping now!

Check Out Each Film Cover Of Scream Factory’s Friday The 13th Box Set

Fans have been receiving their Scream Factory box sets in droves this week and thus far there has been an overwhelmingly positive response. One of the discussion points fans are excited to explore are the different covers used for the Blu-Ray cases for each film.

The majority of the cases have dual, reversible covers based on the marketing used the years each film was released in theaters. Some beautiful international posters are used as alternative covers for some films, while other dual covers are on display based on extra marketing used in the later franchise films. You will notice, however, that Jason Lives, The New Blood, and Jason Takes Manhattan only have one cover. This is mainly due to the fact that the majority of the marketing for these films utilized the same poster design throughout the world.

The one alternative cover that would have been great to see is the unused I Love New York poster for Jason Takes Manhattan. Much like the dispute during the film’s initial theatrical run  trademark issues kept Scream Factory from using this design for the alternative cover.

Also of note, the special features listed on the back covers of some of the films and Bonus Material cases do not represent all of the features contained on the disc. For example, the lost effects footage for Part 2 is not listed on the back of the cover for that film, so don’t be discouraged at first glance for features not found. Make sure to dig around on the discs!
