The new documentary Smoke And Mirrors: The Story Of Tom Savini has been in development since 2011 and debuted a horror festival a few years ago. It is still looking for a wide release and to help further the cause, a brand new second trailer has been released showing off the history of one of the most influential make-up effect artists in the history of film.

Watch the trailer below and look for a release of this highly anticipated film in the near future.

About The Documentary
The first ever feature length documentary about the life and career of famed special makeup artist Tom Savini. Know as the “King of Splatter”, Tom’s work revolutionized an industry with such movies as FRIDAY the 13TH, CREEPSHOW, and DAWN OF THE DEAD. But these facts are misdirection, as the film delves into Tom’s personal triumphs and failings, revealing the man behind the mask.

Image And Review Of 'Freddy vs Jason' House From Halloween Horror Nights!

We had heard rumblings back in 2012 that Universal Studios' ultra popular Halloween Horror Nights attraction was seriously considering creating a Freddy vs Jason themed maze. Unfortunately, the horror duo never made to seasonal event. Although I thought the California theme park would get the horror team-up, we all know now that the Florida destination will be bringing us the fight of the century!

Halloween Horror Nights 25 at the Universal Resort in Orlando, Florida begins September 18th and Freddy and Jason will force you to face your fears. Over at Bloody Disgusting, they gave a short review of all of the haunted houses at the special event and broke down the Freddy vs Jason house along with providing an image from the attraction (pictured above).

From Bloody Disgusting
The house begins with a trip through Camp Crystal Lake. Off the bat I was anxious because typically the first room in a house is small. But the Crystal Lake section starts off in a BIG room where Jason has a lot of places to pop out of. After walking through cabins, being egged on by Mrs. Voorhees, and being terrorized by a whole lotta Jasons, you enter Elm St.

From what they told us, this is the first time they’ve had a to-scale façade in the middle of a maze. Straight up, you walk up to 1428 Elm St. Two little girls playing jump rope deliver the first creep out in Freddy’s world. Then once you walk through the red door, all bets are off. You’re in Freddy’s nightmare. And yes, I scared the hell out of myself in the boiler room section. They had mirrors everywhere, man. I was so keyed up I looked in one, saw myself, and jumped. It happens!

The last third of the Freddy vs. Jason house is the actual rumble itself. Utilizing live actors and video, the house puts you in the ring with the two icons. Who wins? I won’t reveal that but it may not be the same ending for everyone. HHN is crafty like that.

For more information about the attraction, check out the Halloween Horror Nights website and watch the announcement video for Freddy vs Jason below.

New Friday The 13th Director's Latest Work Gaining High Praise At TIFF

As our readers and all Friday The 13th fans anxiously await the new film to be released in 2016, the one component of the pre-production that has me most excited for the new adventure of Jason Voorhees is director David Bruckner. I loved the film The Signal (a film that Bruckner co-wrote and co-directed) and his segment of the anthology film V/H/S titled "Amateur Night" is by far my favorite part of that project. Now comes a review of a new anthology film titled Southbound for which David directed a segment called "Accident".

Collider is at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) and caught a screening of Southbound for which the site is heaping tons of praise towards Bruckner's segment as the runaway hit of the film. The mention of how David builds tension before unleashing a gory and shocking ending has me completely sold on him to steer the ship of the Friday The 13th franchise.

From Collider
by Perri Nemiroff

Accident

Then, in the most seamless transition of the entire movie, we roll right into David Bruckner’s “Accident.” When Lucas (Mather Zickel) accidentally hits a woman with his car on a desolate highway, there’s no one who can help him. He’s got to save her himself.

This is the problem with anthology films. They need to work as a whole but there’s always a risk that one segment will be far superior to the others and in Southbound’s case, that segment is “Accident.” Not only does Bruckner’s mini-narrative get a good deal of momentum due to the way it connects to “Siren,” but it’s also a genius idea period. Thanks to a superb performance from Zickel, Bruckner builds an insane amount of tension through a mere phone call before launching into the more gruesome material which is undoubtedly one of the most wonderfully shocking sequences I’ve seen the entire festival.

I thought it was important to mention David's latest accomplishment and show that the guy can deliver tense and shocking cinema. The only thing left to see is if he can translate that talent into a full feature length film, something his filmography has shown he has not tackled to this point.

Have you seen David's other work before? What did you think of his prior films and what do you expect him to bring to Friday The 13th?

Bringing Harry Manfredini Back To Score The Franchise

Many fans were disappointed that franchise composer Harry Manfredini did not return to the new Friday the 13th movie that was released in 2009. It is anyone's guess why he was not asked, but Platinum Dunes tends to go to Steve Jablonsky for all of their films. Harry has expressed many times his willingness to come back to the film franchise if he was asked.

In an interview conducted by Mark Morton in a few years back at www.examiner.com, Harry discussed his evolution of composing going from the original Friday The 13th to Swamp Thing to Deep Star Six to Jason X and then to more recent movies like The Mangled.

Read below to see what Harry had to say about rejoining the franchise and for the full article click on the website link above.

“Were you even approached to be involved with the remake?

I think a lot of fans were asking for me, and I definitely would have done it if someone had asked me. But I think that the powers-that-be felt that it was going to be a whole new Jason. They didn’t even use Kane [Hodder] or the guy from Freddy vs. Jason [Ken Kirzinger]. They used somebody else completely, and they also went with a different composer [Brian Tyler].

Now, I haven’t seen the movie, nor do I know what the music sounds like. I was getting phone calls like crazy when it came out from people saying, “this is all screwed up,” “this doesn’t make any sense,” “Jason doesn’t run,” and whatever else bothered them. And they didn’t seem to like the music at all – at least the hardcore fans. I know there is a big push from a lot of fans to have me back for the new one next year. Like I said, I’d be more than happy to do it. I would have also been happy to do that last one, too! But those are things that are not in my control.”

Would you like to see Harry return to score the next Friday The 13th film? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Screen-Used Jason Voorhees Head Cowl And Goalie Mask From 'Jason Lives'

Well, it has been a few months since we have featured any new props or items on the website and we were just notified of something very cool that has surfaced. Jason Lives: Friday The 13th Part VI is a big fan favorite within the franchise and we try to bring cool items to the fans when we are aware of them, so today we have the head cowl and hockey mask worn in the film!

The items seen in the images below belong to collector and fan Paul Wintner and he posted about them in the Movie Props Facebook Group. Paul got these amazing items from Chris Swift who was a special effects artist on the film. The Jason Voorhees head cowl was screen matched to being used in the paintball scene in the film. The hockey mask is also matched to that scene as well as a bunch of other scenes in Jason Lives.

These items are amazing and would look great in any fan's collection. What do you think of the head cowl and hockey mask and what would you spend to have these?

The movie business can be very tricky with regard to reception from moviegoers and critics. A winning streak of hit movies can be halted by a single error in the form of a critical and/or commercial flop which could lead filmmakers to make hard adjustments or even end the film franchise.

Remember when Superman III and IV ruined the Christopher Reeve-led Superman film franchise? How about X-Men: The Last Stand ending up as the most brainless movie of its franchise at the time of its release? How about the terrible end of the The Matrix film franchise?

In this countdown of Watchmojo's Top 10 Films That Derailed The Franchise, the Friday the 13th film franchise unsurprisingly made the list. But to find out which Friday film qualified in the chart or how it fared with the others, watch this video now.

How Was Pamela Voorhees As A Cook?

$

As portrayed by the late Betsy Palmer in the 1980 movie, Pamela Voorhees had a history at Camp Crystal Lake as a cook and she depended on the camp counselors on watching her beloved Jason. As there were no flashback scenes relating to her past work at the camp (only flashbacks of Jason in the lake shown), it's a wonder how Pamela fared as a cook.

To be clear, I never got to read the comics of Friday the 13th: Pamela's Tale so I can only speculate what kind of lady she was before the 1957 tragedy of her son's "drowning".

I can only imagine she was a decent cook who helped Camp Crystal Lake organizers feed the kids and the camp staff. Most likely she knew how to fry eggs and bacon, boil corn, cook burgers, make barbeque, grill fresh fish from Crystal Lake and more. Of course it would be interesting to know who taught her to cook.

Can you imagine yourself being a camper or a camp counselor at Camp Crystal Lake eating food cooked by Pamela before her son's tragedy? What food request would you say to her?

Perhaps Jason's mom knew how to prepare a double patty chicken burger like this one from Burger Bus.

The Props Museum: 'Freddy vs Jason' Screen-Used Hockey Mask And Cowl

Today we have another set of new additions to the Friday The 13th Props Museum, owned by Mario Kirner, and these items are from Freddy vs Jason. They add to the growing amount of items featured from Mario's collection and now we can get a much closer look at the screen-used hero hockey mask and undermask/cowl worn in the film!

From Mario Kirner
Check out the inside of the hockey mask. You can see where they had the bad eye at the beginning until they realized it must be on the right side.

They fixed that just during the filming process when all masks had the eye on the wrong side. Ronny says somewhere in the Crystal Lake Memories book that they flipped some of the scenes mirror reverse when they noticed that.

That trick was only possible at earlier scenes when the mask looked the same right and left. It would just not work later when the mask got the damages and you could tell it was flipped.

Also seen in the pics (below) is the hero undermask with hairs attached and a set of screen used costume.

The hockey mask has a soft neoprene added inside for wearing comfort and to make sure the actors skin can not be seen through. The mouth area has the material scratched open for breathing support.

Mask was autographed by both who wore it, Ken (Kirzinger) and Doug (Tait). The mask was auctioned off by New Line Cinema to promote the movie when it came out (in 2003).

The mask received its damages by hand and was not cast that way. The broken parts were then glued together again fixed to the neoprene to not fall off.

We have posted a production sketch of what the filmmakers wanted Jason to look like below as a comparison to the screen used masks and clothing. How do these look up close? Thanks to Mario for providing these awesome pieces for the fans to enjoy!
