One week ago, the humongous announcement was made that the official Friday The 13th: The Game was kicking into high gear with the team previously working on the game Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp. Gun Media received the Friday The 13th license and have now been immersed in their Kickstarter campaign to raise more funds to create the ultimate franchise experience with Jason Voorhees. Of course we all know by now that Kane Hodder, Tom Savini, Harry Manfredini and Sean Cunningham are all involved with the video game and within the first 7 days of the major announcement, the fundraising campaign has raised over $450,000 of its initial $700,000 goal!

The video game developers posted a brand new interview last night with Kane Hodder, who will be motion captured as Jason in the game, and Randy Greenback, Executive Director of Friday the 13th: The Game. The duo discuss what is being done to create an authentic Friday The 13th experience and how Kane will bring his style back to the Jason character.

The Slasher Movie Encyclopedia: Friday The 13th Part 2

Greetings, all.

For those who don't know me, I've been with F13Franchise for a number of years, writing reviews of the films under my article series The Slasher Movie Encyclopedia. For those who remember the previous entries, I apologize it's been so long. But it came to the end of the line, and I didn't know what else to do.
However, I went back and re-read some of the first entries that I did for the series, and quickly realized they were not up to my quality standards. So, I've decided to go back to the first three entries, Part 2, 3, and 4, and do a special edition. A deluxe edition, if you will. Different pictures, higher quality write-up, things of that nature. Just a much better presentation of the product. So, for those who remember the original, I hope you like this one even more, and to those who've never read an article of mine, I hope you dig it the first time around.

Now, I’m gonna give it to you guys straight about Jason. I fell in love with the franchise as a kid. My mom would let me watch the films when they aired on USA, because all the gore was cut out. I use to have so much fun whenever a Friday The 13th would roll around, because there was no doubt going to be a marathon.
I’d run to get the Sunday paper so I could see which ones were going to air, and I’d be almost sick with anticipation the whole week. I’d be drawing pictures at school, telling everyone about my favorite kills and how I wished so badly he was in Mortal Kombat. Of course, little did I know years later my wish would come true, sadly however, the last system I bought was a GameCube.
As I grew up, I never lost my love for the series, and it’s as strong as ever. I collect all the awesome action figures and masks, and whenever October comes around I break out my box set.

When you make a low-budget horror film in order to make a few dollars, and it’s number one at the box-office and an accidental smash-hit, what do you do? You keep the ball rolling. Cunningham, Miller, and Savini opted to not return because they didn’t think Jason being alive made much sense. Thankfully though, Francuso JR & Steve Miner knew there was something to be had, and we got Friday 2.
The film starts off with a flash-back of the last 10 minutes of part 1 via Alice’s dreams. She’s obviously still spooked by all that happened to her, and seems on edge. She makes the fatal mistake of trying to feed her cat, and TADOW! Mrs. Voorhees’ head is in the fridge! Just then, she’s stabbed in the head with an ice-pick. That’s why I make it a point to never feed my pets, I’m not an idiot.
I always thought the idea of Jason hunting down Alice was pretty funny. I mean, did he place a few phone calls to try and track her down? How’d he get there? Did he take a bus? Did he rent a car or something? Is he filling up his car and using the drive-thru with the sack on? Does he explain to the cop it’s OK for him to use the HOV lane because his mother’s head counts as a passenger? I’ve always thought it sucked that Alice died like that, because she kicked a boat load of ass in the first, and then didn’t put up an ounce of fight.

Back at the camp it’s a new batch of counselors, obviously. It’s been 5 years since the events of the first film, or since anything has happened around those parts. Camp Crystal Lake has been sealed off, but Jason cares not about property lines. After we meet the new group of counselors, later that night Paul hosts a camp-fire session, and in one of the series’ greatest moments, he tells the legend of Jason, it’s fantastic. Pranks ensue, levity is felt. Soon after, Paul & Ginny are talking before being interrupted by Crazy Ralph, who does his duty by reminding everyone that things still aren’t safe. Unfortunately for him, he isn’t either, as Jason doesn’t play favorites at all, and Ralph is strangled with barbwire.
After a cop busts two of the counselors for trespassing on Crystal Lake, he heads back to the station when he sees yet another lawbreaker trying to escape. Well, he chases after the stranger at the speed of crapMPH before arriving at the greatest hobo-chantey of all time. Seriously, this thing is like a bum mansion. What makes Jason the burliest of all killers, is that there’s a toilet in this chantey. Meaning he had to steal it. Meaning Jason had to carry a freaking TOILET for like, half a mile, if not longer. Anyway, back to the cop. Naturally, one shouldn’t call for back up or anything, but just go in and check it out. Well, our stranger turns out to be Jason, and he shows his hospitality by sharing the claw portion of his hammer with the sheriff’s skull. It’s kills like these that make the series. It’s simple, yet brutal.
As it eases into the night, Paul says that they can have one last night out, and most opt for a night of boozing.
One girl decides she’s gonna go for a walk, then feels she must skinny dip, skinny being the operative word. She’s gotta be the thinnest girl in the entire series. I’m actually surprised Jason didn’t just offer her a sandwich in lue of killing her. Scott, who’s been after her the whole film, shows up and runs off with her clothes. Well, because he’s no-good-knicking, he stumbles into one of Jason’s foot snare traps, hanging him upside down. Terri finds him, as he’s hollering like a smashed cat. She offers to find a knife to cut him down, and once she heads off, Jason uses the chance to slit his throat, and take care of her when she returns.
Back at the pad, the two no-good-knicks that trespassed are continuing their parade of debauchery by having pre-marital sex. It’s funny, they finish having sex, and Jeff just lays there on top of Sandra. How uncomfortable would that be? I mean, he just lays there. If Jason weren’t a killing machine, he probably would have killed him just for being a weirdo who laid on top of his girlfriend like she was a cot Anyways, Jason comes in and rocks one of the coolest kills ever as he drives the ol’ spear right through both of’em. That’s one of those kills where you know Jason probably wished he had at least one friend, because he’d brag to the moon about this one. Or in this day and age he’d take a selfie with those two dead in the background, and then hashtag it with Mondays.AmIRight?
Next up, Vickie is being a bit of a hussie, trying to bed Mark, the wheel chair hunk. She goes off to spray perfume in her granny panties, and Mark catches a machete right in the face. It’s awesome, and out of no where, one of the most memorable kills in the entire series. A lot of people speculate about whether or not Mark deserves it, and the answer is HELL YES. He was about to get a little action, and that’s just a no go. However, if Jason would have simply waited, he would have seen Mark turn her down. I mean, if a girl shows up wearing something from the Naughty Grandmother Collection via Victoria’s Secret, as that’s where I assume Vicki got her undergarments, most dudes are gonna fake a heart attack to get out of it, or something. Anyway, Vicki comes back and wonders just where the hell Mark is, as she looks for him upstairs. My only guess is she assumed he held the wheelchair in his teeth and drug himself & the chair upstairs. She inspects a bloody bed sheet, only to find Jason, and is quickly stabbed.
Ginny & Paul return from the bar, find the lights off, the place in disarray, and a good batch of death. Jason gets on it quickly and attacks Paul, who’s of course a total wuss and get’s taken down pretty quick. Jason would have at least taken one Johnny Cage Splits & Punch In The Nuts from me if I were in that situation.

Ginny and Jason then have one of the best chase/fight scenes of the whole series. While he’s certainly scary in part 2, they hadn’t really refined the character yet, because he’s kind of a bumbling goof. He’s always falling, or missing the target. Ginny finds the ultimate hobo-chantey and ducks inside. Out the window we see Jason approaching in one of the series’ best shots. I mean, it’s still scary to this day. The focus of the shot is Ginny looking around in wonderment, at this absolutely creepy & destitute monument, and out through the window, out of focus, is Jason running to catch up. It’s fantastic.
Ginny heads to the back where she finds Jason’s stash-spot, a place with all the bodies he’s piled up. One of them happens to be an unidentifiable corpse, with the exception of an ice-pick sticking out of the left side of it’s skull, letting us know it’s Alice. However, the prized piece in his collection is the head & sweater of his beloved mother. Ginny, looking for a Hail Mary, puts on the sweater, dresses her hair up like Mrs. Voorhees, and does her best to confuse him. Lucky for her, it works, however it’s only for a moment. Before Jason can make good on his violent intent, Paul shows up to not save the day, and loses to Jason AGAIN. I mean, what’s his thought processes when he wakes up after the last scuffle with Jason?

Paul: [thinking] Oh no! I’ve got to find Ginny. She only saw me getting my ass beat for about 10 seconds, I have to show her I can keep taking sustained beatings, other wise, she won’t respect me!

He might as well just let Jason kill him, because he has zero shot with Ginny now, after this pathetic display. Anyway, while Jason is about to finish off Paul, Ginny drives a machete through his shoulder and into his chest, assuming him dead.
They head back to the safety of a cabin, as Muffin, the cuddly dog, makes her return from the dead. However, she isn’t the only one, as Jason comes crashing through the window in one of the series most memorable, and debated moments.

It then fades to white, and suddenly it’s next day, as Ginny is on a stretcher being taken to the hospital, inquiring about Paul’s whereabouts the whole time. Some people say Jason’s return was a dream, but I say no way. He came back, he got Paul, but some how she managed to evade him once again.

Official Slasher Movie Encyclopedia Tally:
Killed: 8 [I don’t count Terri, because she didn’t die on screen, and Mrs. Voorhees was a clip from another film]
Swear: 9
Boobs: 2
Slow Motion Scenes: 3
Foot Chases: 2
Fake-Out Scares [ie, a cat]: 4
Car Stalling: 1
Instances of Drugs/Drinking/Sex: 2
Warned But No Belief: Yes

Top 3 Kills:
#3 – If I Had A Hammer: There’s no blood, no masterful effects, or anything flashy to this kill, instead it’s the absolute gnarliness that earns it it’s place. From the very thought of how bad that would hurt, to the expression on the cop’s face, absolutely confirming our belief, this remains one of the series most cringe worthy.

#2 – Now, You’re Really Screwed: Really, the first kill of the series that would scream “Friday The 13th”. Yes, I know it was done already in Twitch of the Death Nerve, but folk state side have no idea about that film, and it’s honestly done better here. It’s just an awesome idea, and one that plays to Jason and Friday The 13th’s elements so well.

#1 – Machete On Wheels: C’mon, who doesn’t have this high in their favorites? We’ve seen people get it with a machete before, but this was just so brutal. It literally comes out of no where, with the actor selling it perfectly with the look on his face and twisted hands. Afterwards, the wheelchair cascades down the stairs in the rain before fading to white, and helping to cement Part 2 as one of the best in the series.

Box-Office Business:
Released by Paramount on April 30th, 1981 to 1,350 theaters, Friday 2 brought in $6,429,784 it’s opening weekend, with an average of $4,762 per theater, earning it the #1 spot. At the end of it’s run, it brought in a domestic total of $21,722,776, which is a massive number for a film that only cost $1.2 million.

Things You Need To Know In Order To Survive:
In the movie, Jason uses the pick-axe to block Ginny’s machete attack. In real life, the first take happened and she missed, slashing Steve’s hand. He went to the hospital in costume, with the machete stuck in his shoulder. The attending nurses and such freaked out when he walked in.

The ending is vague, and confusing. What was suppose to happen, is when the close up shot of Mrs. Voorhees happens, she was suppose to open her eyes and smile. Hinting at the fact that Jason had in fact killed Paul, and was loose. But at the last moment Miner cut it because he said it looked cheap.

This film marks the first, and only time Jason was played by a woman. His legs in the beginning actually belong to the costume designer.

48 seconds were cut by the awesome MPAA to avoid getting an X-Rating.

Much like Halloween, Friday the 13th was suppose to be an anthology series, with something different happening in each movie. But the people wanted their Jason, and smarter heads prevailed.

Final Rating:

4 and a half head-butts out of 5

This is a major fan favorite, for a lot of reasons. Sure, the characters aren’t as fleshed out or interesting as in part 4, and the deaths aren’t as cool as part 6, but 2 has a charm all it’s own. Sack-head Jason is fantastic, and there’s a lot of great shots. The desolate setting does really give you the feeling of hopelessness. Really, does it get better than the shot of Jason’s shrine with the bodies strewn around it? I think not. One of the best of it’s kind, a great film.

Friday The 13th Film Pushed Back Again, Now To 2017

$

I have been covering the Friday The 13th franchise since 2008 and with every rumbling of a new film after the reboot in February 2009, my excitement would grow immensely. When official release dates are announced by distributors, it legitimizes that there will be a new film in theaters in the near future. There have been numerous release date announcements as a follow-up to the Platinum Dunes film from 2009, the first being August 13, 2010. Here were are five years later with no new film and another release date moved.

According to Variety, Friday The 13th has been moved from the previous May 13, 2016 date to January 13, 2017. Paramount's Rings has also been moved back into 2016. This is quite discouraging for fans who have been fed multiple release dates and hope of a new film only to be let down once again.\

On a positive note, the fact that Friday The 13th is still on the release schedule for Paramount is encouraging, but how much longer does the distributor have the rights to make a new film? Also, it is being reported by Bloody Disgusting that Paramount is now actively looking for new writers and a possible shift in direction from the 1980's setting once mentioned by Platinum Dunes.

When we hear more about this unfortunate situation, we will let you know!

Fangoria Magazine And Friday The 13th: Issue #74 (First Look At 'The New Blood')

Continuing our look at the relationship of Fangoria Magazine and the Friday the 13th film franchise, today we examine issue #74 and the first look at Friday The 13th Part 7: The New Blood! This preview article of the latest film in the franchise is quite extensive and shows off Jason unmasked in his decayed state for the first time.

The first thing I noticed in the article was the use of the font from Friday The 13th Part 6 for the title 'Jason Defeated?!' There is nothing bad about it, I just like seeing it used here. The article goes on to talk to Kane Hodder, special effects supervisor Greg Johnson and Lar Park Lincoln about making the film and what everyone can expect to see in the film.

The heavily edited death scenes of Dr. Crews (bushmaster saw to stomach) and Russell (axe to face) are discussed at length in regards to their brutality and the fact that the crew knows they never would make the Rated R cut. Check out the pages below and read through the first look at The New Blood!

The famous New Beverly Cinema is well known in the Los Angelas area and around the country for it's love of films old and new and for continuing to promote the acceptance of 35MM film. The nice thing about the theater is that it never sticks to showing one or two genre of films, but embraces all kinds of movies, including independent and studio produced. So, it is no surprise to see that the New Beverly is celebrating the upcoming Friday The 13th date in November with an eight film marathon!

That's right, the theater will be showing the first eight films in the franchise starting with Friday The 13th 1980 and ending with Friday The 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan. All films are being show in 35MM, which is almost an impossible feat in itself. You owe it to yourself to see these films on celluloid if at all possible.

If you live in the Los Angelas area, you can experience the entire set of films on Friday November 13th. The marathon has not been added to the theater's website yet, but keep an eye on the website for the event at www.thenewbev.com. Citizens of Crystal Lake Part 3: Harold & Edna

$

With plot details for the Friday the 13th series slowly beginning to bleed out from the CW, it’s becoming evident that a strong focus will be placed on Crystal Lake’s citizens old and new.  With the native Crystal Lake’ers said to be nervously playing hush regarding their home area’s dirty little secret in relation to the Voorhees legacy, and the newer habitants’ eventual awareness of the threat that looms in their forests, viewers can expect to be introduced to many unique residents guaranteed to bring quirky characterizations to the show. While waiting to add new names to the list, let’s look back on some of these unforgettable locals.

If travelling to good ole’ Camp Blood, chances are you will need to stop for supplies before nestling in for campfires and mayhem.  Such a need would likely bring you by Harold and Edna’s grocery stop, just outside of the camp and local hideaway Higgin’s Haven.  Proprietors Harold and Edna have been long married, and despite their constant bickering show their love through the commitment to their business, despite all of Harold’s “sloppy habits.”  Mostly, it’s Harold’s obsession with food which makes Edna’s blood boil, and her monitoring of her husband’s gluttony often interrupts her knitting.  Harold will sneak donuts, snacks and even fish food should the mood so dictate.

But it’s through her nagging that Edna truly shows the love she has for Harold, as his health and well-being are the true motivators to her unpleasantness.  She even appears to indulge his other obsession which seems to be a fascination with trains, as their grocery and café is adorned with endless pictures of locomotives.  Equally annoying to his better half, however, is Harold’s love for his rabbits.  While his care for his furry pets shows his soft nature, Edna’s temper is further triggered by their “filthy” presence.  If only Edna knew that none of these idiosyncrasies will cause much of an effect, as it’s the ominous stranger wandering around in her hanging laundry that holds the true threat to their futures.

Portraying Edna is actress Cheri Maugans who, other than her memorable turn in Friday the 13th Part III, mostly appeared in television roles.  Maugans had a recurring role in the All in the Family spin-off Archie Bunker’s Place as the character Molly and also appeared on the hit show Dallas including others.  Interestingly, Maugans was once married to television star David Caruso, although has since been married to Geoffrey Scott and enjoying motherhood to their two children.

And as her for-better-or-for-worse counterpart Harold, Steve Susskind leaves a lasting impression as the loveable goofball.  With his childlike demeanor and innocent opposition, it’s no surprise that Susskind would go on to a long and prolific career as a character and voice actor.  The multi-talented actor went on to appear in numerous television shows such as Tales From the Crypt, movies including Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) and multiple voice roles such as in the 2001 blockbuster Monsters, Inc. Sadly, Susskind was taken too soon in an automobile accident in 2005 but definitely left behind a film and television career that will be remembered with over 60 credits on his resume.

While the loving couple would have their entrepreneurship ended with a cleaver to the chest and a knitting needle through the skull, they will definitely be remembered as another example of the colorful characters that made up Crystal Lake’s population.  One has to wonder what ever became of their road-side grocery stop; or more-so if anyone was brave enough to take over ownership with the possibility of an unwanted customer in Mr. Voorhees returning…

HIGGINS HAVEN REGION
ROUND 4

Sherrif Garris is the lead law enforcer in the town of Forest Green (Crystal Lake for all you former residents) in Jason Lives: Friday The 13th Part 6. Garris spends most of his time thwarting the advances of perceived psychos towards his daughter Megan with an occasional ironing of punks like Tommy Jarvis. However, when the situation arises where he has to get physical with an undead hockey masked psycho, his judgement is questionable at best while deciding to straddle that villain leaving himself in a compromising position. What a back breaker

Pamela Voorhees dedicated her life to her mongoloid son Jason until he drowned at Camp Crystal Lake while the counselors weren't paying attention. In Friday The 13th 1980, she enacts her murderous revenge by killing camp owner Steve Cristie and his counselors while sporting multiple layers of clothing that include a poncho, flannel shirt and a sweater. Pamela also speaks to her dead son Jason as well as talks as her son Jason too.

'Friday The 13th: The Game' Boasts Updated Kickstarter Stretch Goals

Two weeks ago, the gigantic announcement was made that the official Friday The 13th: The Game was kicking into high gear with the team previously working on the game Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp. Gun Media received the Friday The 13th license to use in the game and the creators have been promoting their Kickstarter campaign to raise more funds to create the ultimate franchise experience with Jason Voorhees. Of course we all know by now that Kane Hodder, Tom Savini, Harry Manfredini and Sean Cunningham are all involved with the video game and within the first 14 days of the major announcement, the fundraising campaign has raised over $530,000 of its initial $700,000 goal!

Now there is even more great news; the game developers have updated the stretch goals for donating past the minimum $700,000 needed  to make the game and our readers will be happy with some of the changes. Now included with the initial $700,000 required to make the game is Savini's workshop and the infamous sleeping bag kill seen in Friday The 13th Part 7: The New Blood! Other stretch golas include the head crush from Part 3, the heart rip from Jason Lives and the ability to attain 3 new Jason Voorhees skins representing the different films. Check out the full list of reveals to this point below.

'Friday The 13th: The Game' Reddit AMA Offers New Info About The Project

Gun Media and IllFonic held their first Reddit AMA yesterday to answer questions of fans and gamers alike about the their highly anticipated Friday The 13th: The Game. It was an interesting back and forth between users and the group developing the game with some great questions asked that have been on the minds of our readers.

We have listed the more interesting and prevalent questions and answers below from the AMA with a tease for something big coming our way on Halloween. We also find out if the game is first or third person and some technical information for you hardcore gamers out there. Also, the most important question of all is answered; if the project is not Kickstarted, will there be a Friday the 13th game? Find out that answer below!

What will happen to the game if the Kickstarter isn't funded? It seems like there's already a lot done, so would you find some way to still release it?

If the Kickstarter isn't funded, we'll do whatever it takes to make sure it gets made. It won't be as big, it won't be as epic, but it will be made and we will make it as fun as possible!

Have you reached out to any of the actors from the franchise (or have they reached out to you) specifically the final girls to be included in the game? Like Ginny Field or Chris Higgins as playable featured camp counselors...

We have not reached out to them, nor they us. It would be amazing to get the chance to talk to them! ;)

Could you guys possibly just have an open beta on console's and pc when the time comes?

We're in discussions with Microsoft and Sony, but we can't make any promises. We are definitely working to make it happen!

Hey, looking forward to the game here. I just had a question about the fear system. How do you plan to implement it? Say, you see Jason and your fear goes up. How does a camper manage that? Is the big "sex drugs and rock and roll" approach going to be used to manage that fear?

You will be managing that fear system by making smart decisions: Stay with others, stay away from Jason, stay in the light, go for objectives and the like. The smarter you play and the more you work to stay alive, the better you'll be able to manage fear!

Are there any plans for integrating VOIP into Friday the 13th? How long do you estimate rounds of the game will last? As a game with such a primary focus on multiplayer what measures are you planning to take to prevent hacking and other player issues (such as verbal abuse afking or leaving games early)? Since the game is primarily multiplayer do you, as a developer have experience with / do you believe you are capable of pushing out regular gamplay updates and mantaining a dedicated server?

There definitely will be integrated VOIP, its a really important part of playing with people. But we also want to make sure that people that play without a headset can have plenty of ways to communicate with other players.

Rounds can last anywhere from 10-20 minutes usually. Time really flies by when you are playing too, it all depends on how well the counselors or jason is playing. Some matches can be over very fast, some can last quite a while.

We've done a lot of work with hacking on games so we have plans there but don't discuss our plans with security to the public for obvious reasons, as far as other game specific issue we will have a strong support system waiting to deal with troublesome players. It is important to keep in mind that this isn't a competitive game, so I don't anticipate a wave of players trying to be "#1", but there always will be some and we'll certainly be keeping an eye out.

Absolutely, we have tons of experience in this area and our careers at IllFonic have mostly been focused on multiplayer games.

Is this game 3rd person or 1st person?... OR both! dun dun dun...

We've confirmed that we're 3rd person, but we are exploring first person perspective for the single player challenges! Gotta show off Jason!

why dont you guys drop a video with ign or machinima on halloween to increase crowdfunding?

We have plans for Halloween! Stay tuned!

Will there be a spectator mode for downed counselors? Perhaps something highly cinematic with film grain, music and awesome camera angles?

Yes. Absolutely. We don't want you being bored, and it will totally be cinematic. Can't wait to show it!

Now here is something I have been hearing about for a few months now, but I never truly thought it was going to get a release. I was wrong. Nike and Lebron James are releasing a Friday The 13th themed shoe that is part of the Lebron 13 line titled "Friday The 13th". This new shoe is being released officially on November 13th (very appropriate) and will sure to become a hot topic of conversation if it is worn on an NBA court in the near future.

Check out the images below which has 13 added to the tongue of the shoe along with red blood splatter on the base of the shoe. The pair of kicks will cost you $200 for which I am sure some of our readers will invest and undoubtedly wear to a convention or two.

Keep an eye out at your local shoe retailers next month to get yourself a pair of Lebron James' Friday The 13th shoes. Thanks to thestashed.com for the heads-up!

PINEHURST REGION
ROUND 4

Shelly Finklestein is the socially awkward and attention starved roommate of Andy going to spend the weekend at Higgins Haven in Friday The 13th Part 3. He is a talented juggler and prankster that kept his whole world in a tiny box which included a wet suit, hockey mask, stage mask, harpoon gun, prop head knife appliance and much much more. Too bad Shelly cried wolf one too many times as Jason Voorhees acquired his iconic hockey mask from the non skinny dipper.

Alice Hardy is one of seven counselors hired to re-open Camp Crystal Lake in Friday The 13th 1980. She spends her time at camp drawing her boss, trying to call snakes out from underneath her bed and avoiding the town crazy Ralph when going into pantries. Alice was able to stop the multiple bitch slaps from Mrs. Voorhees by making the deranged mother lose her head.

Which one will win this knock down drag out fight? Make sure to vote in the Comments Section below!
